Speedometer on the bike does not work …?

I have a 1996 Suzuki GSX-R750. The speedometer is working speedometer, but it is not. shows some speed, but speed is not adequate and does not always work, working inside and out. I took the sensor out and was very viscous, so I cleaned and put back, but now you just released from the needle. The Clymer manual is no help at all (very disappointed). The mechanic said to be the sensor, but I want to try other solutions before connecting another few hundred dollars. I'll probably check the fuse, but fuse the needle work sometimes, if not a complete combustion, but not working properly. I will also check the link connections. Does anyone know what else might be wrong with him or anything else I should do? thanks

I guess it's an electronic unit as it refers to the sensor. Here is a list of things to see. The meter itself has a child that provides 12 V and a cable ground. There could be another thread that feeds the lamps. Or the first connection may have corroded or loose cable somewhere. Also check the cable between the sensor and meter for the same problem. Hall effect sensors are working normally and then stop smoking completely, even if you can wake up the next morning when everything has cooled. Other times, they work very well and then die altogether. Since the meter is running on and off, so do not suspect the sensor. The other possibility could be the circuit board inside the device itself or the small motor is attached to the needle if it's an analog meter (Digital does not show the motor). I guess a welded joint can be released within, but I was, the sensor and the meter would be the last thing I suspected.
